Shampoo is a cleansing agent consisting of liquid soap or detergents that is massaged for washing the hair and scalp. Shampoo produces suds or soapy water with froth on the surface. Shampoo removes dirt, excess oil and dead skin cells. But, be careful, too much use may do harm as well. Natural oil of the hair penetrating down the strands will keep the hair healthy. That should not be disturbed.
Fundamentally Shampoo is meant to remove excess oils and the build up of everyday wastes left over from hair care products. Choosing the proper shampoo is based on your type of hair.
You would have noticed that sometimes your hair becomes untidy, weak, dull, heavy or greasy. You find it difficult to comb. The cause is the accumulation of impurities due to hairsprays, mousses, and gels etc. The hard water and chlorine from swimming pools, the usage of shampoos containing waxes and moisturizers are also the causes of this problem. Further, as reflection of light is prevented by the accumulation of dust, the hair appears dull and dusty. A small amount of shampoo will do for the purpose.
A ‘clarifying shampoo’ can refresh the hair and restore the shine. It is devised to clean the hair by removing foreign matter buildup in the hair shafts. Constant use of a clarifying shampoo will prevent the buildup and make the hair clean.

Acetic acid, known for its de-scaling abilities is a constituent in clarifying shampoo. We all know that vinegar removes scales in kitchen items like vessels, coffee pots, tea kettles and so on. In the same way, it restricts build up of foreign matters on the hair.

Clarifying shampoo has little conditioning abilities. While it removes scales and dirt, it can harm the hair by drying if over-used. It should be born in mind that the label of the container lists the ingredients in a particular order. That is the largest in quantity tops the list. Any shampoo that contains acetic acid will do the job of a clarifying shampoo. For oily hair use shampoo once a week and for dry hair once in two to three weeks. .

Those who often visit the swimming pool must use a shampoo that is capable of removing chlorine, which can dry the hair and even change the color of the hair. Clarifying shampoo with a conditioner will keep the hair soft.

Usage of lot of hair products and taking bath in hard water may necessitate clarifying once or twice per week. It all depends. On the average it may be twice a month
Method of clarifying: Take a small quantity of clarifying shampoo and massage your scalp for about 60 seconds. Lather may be proportional to the build up and oils on your hair. Rinse well.
Next, take a small amount of shampoo and apply on the head. You can see lot of froth. Wait for sometime. The unwanted stuffs will give way. Rinse thoroughly. Repeat the steps if necessary.
Clarifying shampoo does not have moisturizers. So use your regular conditioner with moisturizer. You may have to use a bit more.

Frequent use of clarifying shampoo on colored hair will result in hair color to fade. So, clarify colored hair only once a month or so. Avoid clarifying your hair soon after a fresh color. Wait for at least three weeks.
